Each Departmental Head is responsible for the smooth functioning of his/her department, i.e., syllabus, books, equipment, assessment of students’ progress, record keeping, etc.

The Heads of Department report to the Curriculum Head, who is the Deputy Head-teacher. The Head-teacher has direct responsibility for the activities of Art and Physical Education.

Other Responsibilities

Mackenzie High School has within recent years identified persons to co-ordinate its co-curriculum activities and to assist with the supervision of its ancillary staff. There has also been need for persons to ensure that there is smooth transition (from primary to secondary school) of our new intake, and to oversee our Fifth Formers with direct reference to their preparation for external examinations. The four (4) persons who are identified to carry out the above mentioned duties report directly to the Head-teacher.

The Prefect System

Students are encouraged to take an active part in the smooth running of the school through the prefect/monitor system. Each elects a class monitor or representative.

Prefects are selected from the Fifth and Sixth forms only. Every prefect and monitor or class representative is a member of the Students’ Council which elects its own head. The Students’ Council meets on the last Wednesday of every month.
